SolarTI83 ("we," "the site") operates solarti83.com. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the site and how it is handled.

Information We Collect

SolarTI83 is a free tool site. There are no accounts, and we do not ask for your name or contact details to use any tool.

If you send a message through the contact form on the About page, the email address and message you enter are delivered to us by Formspree, the form service, and are used only to reply to you.

Locations and Addresses You Enter

The tools work from places you pick on a map or search for. To answer those requests, the site sends them to the services below. We do not tie them to you or keep a record of the searches.

  • Solar position: the location and time you select are sent to our server on Amazon Web Services to compute the sun's position. Place searches go from your browser to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service.
  • Residential solar: address searches and the building you select are sent to our server, which looks them up with Google (address search and the Google Solar API for roof data) and NREL (weather data). The weather service caches weather data for locations rounded to about 1 km, so later lookups nearby are faster. In some states your browser also asks the state's public parcel service for the property boundary, and the USGS elevation service for ground height. An electricity usage file you upload is read in your browser and is not sent anywhere.
  • Stadium shade: searches for places that are not in the stadium list go through our server to Google Places. The 3D view is loaded by your browser from Google's Map Tiles API. “Near me” uses your browser's location only inside the page; it is not sent to our server, saved, or added to the link.
  • Tides: the station list and predictions are loaded by your browser from NOAA.

Map and satellite imagery is loaded by your browser from Esri and Google. Each of these providers receives your IP address with the request, as any website you load does, and handles it under its own privacy policy.

Cookies and Advertising

This site uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the Internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings. You can also visit aboutads.info to opt out of third-party cookies used for personalized advertising. Where the law requires it, a consent message from Google lets you accept, decline or manage these cookies before they are used.

Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics to see which pages and tools are used. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as the pages you visit, your browser and device type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. We see this only as aggregate reports that do not identify you. You can block it with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
